BIOL 1902 Monday September19th 2011 − Gray Tree Frog; startle pattern; bright yellow under the legs. − Ring-necked snake; startle pattern; bright yellow underneath. − Giant swallowtail; startle pattern (structures); osmetaria; “snakes tongue” physical and chemical; bad smell is touched. − Beaver; startle sound; slap the water with tail; also to warn other members of danger. − Startle pattern hidden until necessary; not all eye spots are! − Eyed elater; fake eye spots always on display. − Tiger swallowtail caterpillar; fake eyes; eye spots; can make an animal look larger than life. − Startle pattern can serve as distraction patterns/deflection. − Some butterflies; fake antennae and heads for distraction/deflection; Eastern Tailed Blue; Swallowtail butterflies; “fresh” (all is there) Giant Swallowtail; tails can wear off − Five-lined skink; blue tail comes off and keep moving to distract the predator as it runs off; Autotomy. − Leaf Roller − Stagh
