Beaver ponds create huge habitats for other organisms. Beaver ponds provide homes for: the benefit from beavers: mink, great blue heron, otter. 10 years), the damn will break and the pond drains, once all the water is gone there is lots of nutrients left over in the ground (organic soup), this allows a meadow to develop. Beaver ponds= habitat and nutrients: 1&2 times a year the water gets stirred up by rainfall and snow, revealing the nitrogen and phosphorus which can be used by animals, they maintain water tables even during drought. Not all habitats are the same in the boreal forest.
