Personality as an individual"s relatively stable characteristic patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior, and the psychological mechanisms that support and drive those patterns. Traits refer to broad, relatively regular dimensions of individual behaviour; two types; the big 5 and the myers briggs type indicator. Conscientiousness: dependable, organized, reliable, ambitious and hardworking, strongest influence on performance of the big 5, prioritize accomplishment, also predicts other work/non-work outcomes such as career success and health. Agreeableness: kind, helpful, warm and cooperative, prioritize communion striving, seek to gain acceptance in personal relationships, focus on (cid:862)getting along(cid:863), not necessarily (cid:862)getting ahead(cid:863, beneficial in many positions/roles but can be detrimental in others. Openness: curious, imaginative, creative, valuable in jobs that require high levels of creativity and spontaneity, predictive of cross-cultural sensitivity and success in international assignments, more likely to migrate into artistic and scientific fields.
