Laboratory experimentation (experimental design, hypothesis formation and testing, and statistical analysis) Shepard and metzler (1971) mental rotation experiments. Subjects were presented with drawings of pairs of 3d figures: Each figure is asymmetric and resembles its partner. In two cases, the figures resemble each other because they"re the same figure, just rotated to different degree, in the third case, the figures are different. Subjects" task: to identify as quickly as possible which pairs of drawings are identical figures rotated to different degrees. The time it took them to perform the task (reaction time) was measured. Had to pull one lever if the two drawings depicted the same figure and another figure and another if they depicted different figures.
