Cognitive research has historically focused on cold cognition". However, over the past 30 years a growing number of researchers have investigated the relationship between cognition and emotion. Feeling, or affect that can involve physiological arousal, conscious experience, and behavioural expression. Usually emotion is distinguished from mood due its episodic nature. Emotions can motivate us to perform actions. Determine behavioural reactions to events, especially social situations: Perceived external stimulus specific physiological arousal emotion. Schachter and singer"s two factor theory of emotion. General, undifferentiated physiological arousal occurs and is then interpreted based on context. Half not told true effect of drug. Same emotion as confederate only if were not told true effects of drug. Method: woman asked men questions on capilano river suspension bridge or stable bridge just above water. Results: on high swaying bridge men viewed women as more attractive. James-lange correct: not all emotions have the same physiological response.
