Baar"s global workspace model: consciousness highlights certain parts of memory that other part of the brain has access to (it"s a shared space) Dennett"s multiple drafts model: there are multiple drafts of the same story, different stories are competing for attention. What is a model: representation of something that amplifies some detail and excludes others. What is a cognitive model: model of a mind in the form of a computer program = models some form of thought, model makes predictions (categorization) and then be compared to data. Cognitive architecture: programming environment/tools that make a cognitive model, how cognition works in different people (speed of learning, memory) Sub symbolic: not made of symbols but aggregate act like symbols: hybrid symbolic: models that are both cognition and biological (hybrid) Symbolic architecture: production system: if-then rules (happens with everything you do) Distinguishing rocks from a sandwich in a picture - if you get it wrong.
