Marijuana ­ Most commonly used illicit drug in NA ­ Considered a gateway drug ­ Plants are easy to grow Cannabis Sativa ­ Can grow to 4 meters tall ­ Active euphoric principle- THC (Delta-9): Tetrahydrocannabinol ­ Female plants are more valuable, they last longer ­ Fibers in stalk (hemp) can be use to make rope, fabric, paper and oil Hashish ­ Potent form of Cannabis produced from collecting trichomes from female plants ­ Trichomes are the fine outgrowths that produce a sticky resin (thought to be exuded by the plants to trap insects that would feed on it) Sinsemilla ­ Without seed ­ Higher in THC than leaves ­ 10-14% THC, still increasing History ­ Chinese referred to it as “liberator of sin”, “delight giver” ­ Hindu called it “heavenly guide”, “grief soother” ­ Outlawed in 1937 BC Bud ­ Highest known level of THC ­ Bud from female plants grown in BC ­ Usually 15-25% THC when grown indoors ­ Grown hydroponically, 27.5% Effects ­ Moderately addictive ­ Long te
