Document Summary
Discuss the sexualisation of young girls in society today and its impact. No one definition of childhood that encompasses every country in the world, and time. Children were once seen as economic assets to the family. Endangered time- we thought we needed to protect their innocence. Too young to wed: the secret world of child brides. Often child marriages would take place at night to keep it secret. Men were supposed to wait until girl had her period before they had sexual activity, but now we know they are not waiting. Many of the arrangements are made to settle a debt (family owes family) Girl goes to live with the husband"s family, stops attending school, disempowers young girl, at the mercy of older man/husband. Everyday, more than 25000 girls under the age of 18 are married worldwide. For many child brides, a future of poverty, exploitation and poor health awaits. Raided to believe they don"t have any rights.
