Nothing was known about crete until the 20th century. The name crete pops up in myth like minos and the minotaur. A british archeologist knossos thought to dig in crete and found a very advanced civilization which had palaces which where the idea of labyrinth they found very intriquete pots and advanced writing like hieroglyphic and linear writing. 2150-1550 crete appears to be a very powerful and wealthy civilization. It was a society that worships the deities of the underworld earth deities. (chthonic) They were great sailor as merchant and traders. Their settlement and palaces were unfortified which brought the idea that their naval forces were enough to protect them. Homer does the leader of the greek agamemnon the leader of the mycenae. A disruption in 1300 bc which was believed to be due to the greek. The people of mycenae were not greek speaker. The mycenaean culture show development which was not available in other civilization.
