Habeas corpus - have the body, appear in person. Conubium - legal marriage of two roman citizens. The husband is usually much older, they want to avoid marrying cousins and closely related relatives. Marriage cum manu / sine manu with the hand / without the hand. With the hand, the wife comes under the familial authority. The wife would make part of the family (??). Without the hand, later on in the republic, the wife will marry the husband, but does not make part of the family. Which also means that she does not have any right to inheritance from the husband. It seems as though, she still falls under the patria potestas of her father, not the husband. They did not have the right to marry, but their relatinoships were called like this. Patria potestas (legal authority of paterfamilias) - is the word to describe the power that the paterfamilias has over his familia.
