CLCV 1003 – Terms 8 140206 Julio­Claudian Emperors (27 B.C. – A.D. 68) • The first family of emperor • Statin with Julius • They believed they were as good as the Gods  Augustus (+ Livia) o Augustus was Julius Caesar successor   o His first six chosen successor all died before he did o Marcellus (his right hand man) o Agrippa (lifelong friend) o Gaius and Lucius (grandson) o Drusus (Livia’s younger son) o Tiberius (Livia’s older son) o It is said that Livia had something to do with were deaths because she wanted her favourite son on the  throne o Livia is the wife of Augustus, she had 2 sons from another marriage Tiberius o He was forced to marry Augustus’ daughter Julia and became Augustus’ son in law o He lacked confidence and seemed to have emotional scars from his mother o Before emperor he spent most of his time out of Rome o After a couple years in power he left to his little villa and retired Gaius/Caligula o Caligula means little bootsy o He considered himself a God o He get sick and never really recovers well  o He was assassinated by his royal guard because his mental health was becoming to saver Claud
