It"s about signals, channels, noise, and engineering: claude shannon (1916-2001, mathematical theory of communication (deceptively simple, info source > (message) > transmitter > (signal) > noise source > (received signal) Internet becomes commercial entity in the 90s and late 80s. Prior to that, it was for military communications, universities, etc: the internet = network of networks. Histories: development of technology is a really long, slow, complicated process. Not a straight arrow tale: luck and chance were crucial parts of this history. What if ogas had been a go: the networks that we have now is due largely to several instances of chance. Things can change for better or for worse, even now: technology is society made durable.
