We turn our attention to politics because we begin to see many things in life as political. Modes of communication are used in the political realm. To think of things in political terms represents a powerful analytical tool academics use. To draw the attention to the politics of communication is a potent use of analysis to draw attention to questions of communication. Two people are having a conversation, and the purpose of this conversation is to establish a friendship, some might say it is a social purpose. Some might argue that a conversation through skype is a technological social purpose. Communication is political because it is deeply tied to power. Communication as political is therefore to privilege certain modes of communication and the power that comes with it.
