Document Summary

Normative constructs shape us into how we behave. Race is also a socially constructed category however, it is often analyzed through differences (referring to different than the white, dominant majority). Social power and prejudice toward people produce racism. Race, gender, and media: media influence attitudes about race and gender, often use racial and gender stereotypes, this does not mean that all media are racist, sexist, or misogynist, media reflect entrenched (institutionalized, dominant, or hegemonic) attitudes. The term ethos can be referred to as atmosphere. Sexting refers to sexual messages or images through text messages. It can involve more than one person and expand to social media. This heightens the concerns around surveillance and privacy. There ae cases happening throughout the world where people are being penalized for their actions- headlines of these stories in the media are often strategically worded to bring attention. Youth often engage in behaviours they know will attract attention.
