Many disney tales are based on very old fairy tales french, german, russian, etc. The most famous ones are probably the german ones originating from the grimm brothers. These stories are usually described as fantastical, whimsical. In the past, not tied to specific history. Involve strange creatures, told to amuse children but that helps make them part of us. These stories get imprinted in our minds from our childhood we often forget about the terror and romance as we grow up.
