Ie, labelling : what we are told/tell about ppl. More recent in sociology in terms of qualitative study. Power of narrative in criminology is very strong. Recognizes that human beings give meaning/understanding through stories. Stories are central to how people talk about themselves and their lives. Narrative inquiry draws on interviewing, and goes beyond interviewing. Bc it is about ppls lives as they are lived it draws on many texts: Ie, draws on interviews (transcript of interviews), and other texts like journals, diaries, notes, letters, photos, poems, art, etc trying tell. (spend time in those contexts) How people narrate/make meaning of their lives. Narrative researcher embeds themselves in the lives of the people"s stories they are. Narrative analysis: story is one focus of the analysis, but also the story itself is the object of the research. (narratives are both the method and the phenomena of the study)
