Hera disguises herself as an old woman and tricks semele. Convinced her to make zeus swear on the river styx to reveal his true form. Zeus appears in all his glory and semele is roasted to a crisp. Dionysus is the god of fertility and uncontrolled passion. Hermes is tasked to take the baby as far as he can go, ends up in india, africa, or egypt. Mt nysa is said to be in egypt (or india) usually depicted with a panther. Was given to a satyr, silenus to look after. All of a sudden the ship started filling up with wine. The mast turned into a vine, with grapes hanging down. Dionysus turned himself into a lion and the pirates into dolphins. He rewarded the ones who recognized his godly powers. The eye cup he is the god of theatre. Carries a thyrsus, long pointed sticks with a pinecone on top.
