Adventures: hero v. villain; detective v. criminal; murder, hidden treasure, damsel in distress. Potter is framed by injun for the murder of the doctor: huck and tom make a pact not to tell the truth. If the boys had left for adventures not eh island they wouldn"t be good heroes since they wouldn"t bring justice to their town. They thought that god would strike injun (with lighting): tom assumes based on his background that the unjust will be punished. Tom and huck conclude that injun is being protected by the devil and that"s why he hasn"t been hit: how are the boys to win against a villain who"s aligned with the devil. They assume the legal system is incapable of nding the wrong man guilty: adults are criticized for accepting injun"s word. The trial: evidence and critical thinking lacks in the adults.
