Destiny and fate: with a cynical lens it would suggest that human beings are incapable to learning; the story suggests that the abstract humanity is something we choose and bene t from choosing. Dominant characteristic that he shares with stanley: he"s poor. Builds physical strength from carrying the pig up the mountain. He leaves before nishing his end of the bargain he struck with his helper: broke contract with mrs zeroni because he forgets and the regrets. The last bit of insight is that he should have been more considerate. The story"s moral is keep your word and be considerate; the family (ancestors) take the notion of the curse as the main point of the story. Sam, kate and trout walker: issues of race. Sam is african american and there are laws against miscegenation (mixing of the races) with kate.
