The story of the rage of achilles. The major players in the story: achilles, paris, helen. Divine, son of peleus (mortal man) and thetis (sea nymph) Education of achilles by chiron: learns from the centaur chiron. Prophecy about achilles: he had 2 choices: he could live along, insignificant mortal life or a very short, glorious life, he chooses the short life, arete > excellence/virtue (glorious die in battle sort of thing) Helen"s first abduction by theseus: she went off with him to athens. Helping the trojans: athena, hera, poseidon, aphrodite, ares, apollo, artemis. Sometimes lets the trojans wins, sometimes lets the greeks win. Not on any side, but lets things happen. Did not invite the goddess discord, cursed them. Threw a golden apple amongst the goddesses with a word on it > for the most beautiful . Aphrodite, athena, and hera fought over it, zeus told them to ask paris. Athena > i will make you a great warrior.
