Goals: to improve comfort, reduce adapive acions, and improve robustness to occupant uncertainty. Personal fan, hand heater, foot heater, task lighing Tradiional controls conservaive to prevent complaints; not opimized for energy; one size its all . Controls can be designed to learn from occupant override/habits. Sub-metering would reduce energy by ~30% (measures energy consumpion individually per suite) 25% of homes in ontario are sill bulk-metered (one meter measures energy consumpion for enire building usually more expensive provides no incenive for residents) Path of least resistance consider from beginning of design. Majority of energy used for equipment, lighing, etc. Low surface area to volume raio minimizes heat transfer through envelope and minimizes heaing/cooling loads. Internal loads are insigniicant compared to heaing/cooling loads caused by heat transfer through envelope.
