Recall that volcanic eruptions are a natural hazard that get their source of energy from the earth"s internal energy. To understand the relation between magma composition, eruptive style, eruption type and volcanic landforms. To describe the different types of volcanic eruptions and landforms. To know the characteristics of canadian volcanoes. To know which volcanic materials and processes can harm people and do damage to infrastructure: caldera-type eruptions. Landform = caldera (collapsed volcanoes due to eruption (and depletion of magma reservoir) 2 things can happen in a caldera eruption. Volcano collapse: the stratovolcano collapses into the partially emptied magma chamber. Cataclysmic explosion: explosion blows the existing volcano apart completely. The cataclysmic explosion completely blew apart the volcano. Size of explosion = about 100 megatons. Calderas and central vents: central vents are created by explosions, calderas are collapsed volcanoes due to eruption (and evacuation of magma reservoir) A volcano can change eruption type over periods of time.
