Know the key characteristics of each crater presented. Crater diameter = (roughly) 20x the impactor diameter. Craters with diameter > 5km don"t contain meteorites. Rim rocks are tilted away from the crater. Large angular blocks of rock scattered around crater. A conical fragment of host rock fractured b y the shock wave generated by the impact. There are about 160 impact craters in the world. About 25 are in canada due to its large territory. No craters have been found in the rockies because: The rocks are younger than the continent"s interior. Largest and oldest impact crater in canada. Presently: elliptical structure due to deformation because of fault movement. Lies within the original limits of the sudbury impact crater, underneath lake. Found because low gravity indicates missing mass which indicates a gravity.
