FILM 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Dutch Angle
Document Summary
There are two different extremes of cinematography: realism, expressionism. It tries to minimize any intervention that the filmmaker has brought in: a good example of this is when a movie is given a cheap look. A hand-held camera: scary movies often take this approach when filming, the content of the film matters more than the images that are being seen on the screen. It avoids pretty images: the camera keeps on rolling; we are letting the actions speak for themselves. In this style, there is a big emphasis on routine, everyday activities that avoid. Realistic cinematography in fiction action-packed narratives: we as the spectators, get a sense that we are watching real life unfold. It does not seem like it is a movie: they often use black and white to avoid any glamour shot. Expressionist camera angles: extreme high angle, sin city, extreme low angle, touch of evil, (cid:862)dutch angle. (cid:863, slanted angle.
