Usually some kind of psycho path (usually focus on women. Most prevalent in american film in the 70s and 80s. Where slasher started to develop (and the conventions of slasher) conventions = couple who has sex usually dies first. By the end there"s usually the final girl left (luck, bravery, morally pure, virgin, etc. ) The gaze and laura mulvey: feminist film scholar. Visual pleasure and narrative cinema (active male, passive female. Men are the ones who look, women are looked at. 1 voyeurism (looking without being seen, looking at things as objects, etc. ) Identification (misrecognizing yourself in the image on the screen like women forced to identify with the male character on screen and with the final girl men are identifying with women (the hero)* Male characters: active agents and push the story forward aren"t objectified in slides: strategies in representing men. Film form can make us look at bodies in ways that reproduce structures of hierarchy and patriarchy.
