Document Summary
Prometheus was the son of a titan (iapetus) When all the titans were sent to tartaros, prometheus stayed on earth. Prometheus stole fire from the gods (heaven) and gave it to the humans: fire in the form of lightening for the gods. Zeus was angry and tied prometheus to the top of mount caucasus. Regarded the theft as a serious offence took the time to punish prometheus. Hesiod mentions in theogony he rivaled the plans of the almighty zeus: titans and olympians were rivals. Prometheus is the founder of the arts (and science) in the greek minds: the myth took fire as a symbol for all the rest. Mankind has rivaled god, encouraged by the serpent: become as one of us . Fruit was stolen from the tree: tree stands for knowledge. God didn"t want the humans to have knowledge but once they had it, he expected them to use it.
