GEOG 1010 Lecture 2: Global Energy System
Document Summary
Electromagnetic radiation: generates electric and magnetic field, sun radiates this, we all radiate this, lightbulb, walls because everything has temp above -273 degrees. Solar insolation trying to quantify how much radiation is received from sun. Distribution of insolation: why do we receive less energy than the equator, because of the tilt of the earth, the sun will never be overhead in our city. Its more diffused because sun is at an angle but equator, the sun goes all the way overhead and they receive maximum amount of solar energy possible. Daily insolation: on very cloud(cid:455) da(cid:455), the su(cid:374)"s e(cid:374)e(cid:396)g(cid:455) (cid:449)e ha(cid:448)e to (cid:396)e(cid:272)ei(cid:448)e (cid:272)a(cid:374) (cid:271)e (cid:396)edu(cid:272)ed (cid:271)(cid:455) up to 90% Daily insolation at top of the atmosphere graph: graph does not cover cloud cover, different geographical areas receive different amounts of insolation per year. Insolation and solar power: latitudes are closer to equator.
