A shift to the post industrial society: bell made three key claims, rise of services associated with a shift away from blue collar to white collar employment, with professional, scientific and technical occupations playing an increasingly important role, second and in line with the first claim, knowledge and information are the key resources shaping economic and social development. 6 forces driving the growth of services: rising per capita incomes higher personal income = greater increases in demand for services, growing demand for healthcare and education, baby boomers huge increase of population means larger expansions of education institutions and increased needs of job opportunities, healthcare demand also increased, nature of education today more and more requirements needed to obtain a degree compared to even a couple decades ago. Seven industries in services: finance, insurance and real estate, business services, transportation and communications, wholesale and retail activities, entertainment, hotels and motels, public services at all government levels, non profit services.
