Document Summary

Whole idea that the 1950s was a decade of conservatism with the development of ideas of domesticity. On the other side, shortly after the 1950s there were ideas of a much more liberal approach to all kinds of moral issues like abortion, homosexuality etc. There is not overall blueprint for these types of policies and they took place over the whole of western europe. Over 1960s is when most of this took place. These are legal changes in official policy not necessarily about attitude. Gallup organization- polling data back into the 30s and 40s to track changes in attitudes towards all kinds of moral, political and social issues. It is not a linear change, tends to be a fluctuating line according to people"s experience. Shift in opinions about broad social issues. Things are now viewed much more liberally. We think of the 1960s when these changes took place, this is thought as a period dominated by young people.
