A brief history of neoliberalism by david harvey. In chapter 5, the author tries to explain the chinese model of achieving neoliberalism. The author sheds light on the nature of the chinese economy from during the late 20th century and the wake of the 21st century. The chinese leader deng xiaoping is portrayed in the article as having the vision of ensuring economic growth with the channels of export income (harvey, China at the time was under an authoritarian central rule with all corporations state- owned. This meant that the government held all the possibilities of growth at their disposal from banks to land. However, the state, according to the article opened up its economy to outside influence to tap into the resource of labor that was had in abundance. Therefore, this created the export model that the government used to spur economic growth.
