Division of age over 65 years: young-old: 65 -74 years, old-old 75-84, oldest old: 85 years and older. Seniors: 65 (or 60) years of age and older. Chronological age: number of years a person has lived; measured in years, months, and days from the date the person was born (date of birth) Legal age & privileges: chronological age defines legal age. Subjective age/age identity: the result of subjective experience that represents the psychological and social meaning of age. Functional age: how well an individual performs specific physical, cognitive, or social tasks, often in comparison to others of a similar age. There are 3 types proposed: biological: functioning of organ systems. Ex: blood pressure similar to a 25-year- old: psychological: functioning on psychological tests. Their ability to solve complex problems: social: functioning in social life and social roles. Biological aging: includes genetics and environmentally induced changes in cellular, musculoskeletal, reproductive, neural, cardiovascular, and sensory systems.
