Contention and mobilization: making claims towards other people, they have to see your interests and you need for your rights. Contained: contained contention in already set context (elections, competitive sports) Transgressive contention are new forms of collective action under a new context and medium. Does not mean social means do not work within pre-existing institutions of power and politics. Movement and countermovement: attempts to create a reaction to your actions creating collective actions groups, counter-movements often spawn as a reaction to these movements as well to show the counter-narrative. Collective challenge: collective challenge: disrupts cultural codes, direct action against the elite, co-ordinated by an organization or self-coordinated. Continual interaction is what keeps it from being a fad (kony 2012) What are the dynamics, potential outcomes, and changing of settings and dynamics for other social movements. Repertoire of contention: obstructing, attacking, boycotting, protesting, anything to disrupt status quo. Rational choice theory: individuals are rational self-maximizers.
