The more of an object you produce, the less you have to charge for it. Then you have to find more people who want it. Industrial design leads to better quality of life. A commercial activity by designing objects wanted by buyers. Industrial machines need to be used to make an appropriate quantity. Light switch has a boring design but are designed to be so that it doesn"t distract from other products. Because products are mature they start to look alike. Ex cars, used to look completely different, now need to look at logo to identify brand. Want consumer to buy latest version of the same brand when old one wears out. Consumers are allowed to be reasonably ignorant of their product. Packaging was made larger so small items could nit be stolen. In history before 1750 you used mostly local material. This affected the design of products and tools because every region has different resources.
