How did writing develop: used token system, you buy a pot get a token, exchange token for goods, eventually started engraving symbols, eventually became writing, have recovered over 1000 writing tablets, mostly accounting lists. Romans put the engineer and his family under the bridge then marched the army over it. If the bridge failed, they died first: had consistency. In performance: caused a lot of environmental damage though.
