The activities and the actors that respond to crime. The matters within criminal justice filter down. (uses a triangle as a metaphor) Tringle represents all criminal matters that are formally entered into the system. So it dose not show criminal matters that people chose not the enter into this system. All matters where people are charged with an offence. The provincial budget (costs) the actors and activities. Cases that end up actually going to trial. Most cases are resolved with a plea bargen. Policing would make up the biggest slice of this tringle: attempt and controlling crime. Second layer = correctional system: jails, detention centers, the actors within those facilities (probation officers) Third layer = info structure of running the cjs: courts, judges, crown, administrative staff. The very top layer (smallest portion) = the amount of funding for legal aid: for individuals who cannot afford lawyers on their own, gets the least amount of attention.
