Document Summary

We watched the second half of the film dancing around the table . This film (part 1 and part 2) provided a comparison between how the trudeau government verses how to mulroney government dealt with the constitutional issues revolving around aboriginal self-government and their relation with the federal government. Points discussed after the film: aboriginals can opt for what we call sectoral agreements , which means that if they are not able to manage supporting an entire government on their own, they could opt to make sectoral agreements. For example, they could negotiate with the provincial government to get jurisdiction over their own education system. However, if it involves everything, then there needs to be agreements made with both levels of government. Note: we covered the last two slides before starting the first slides. Colonialism should not be the only source of law in canada. John borrows from last week"s reading touched on this topic well.
