Winnipeg has the highest number of aboriginal people. Aboriginal children, 14 years old and under, are more likely to live with a lone parent when compared to the non-aboriginal counterparts. Social scientists have tried to find several reasons for overrepresentation of aboriginals in prisons, the sex trade etc. Included industrial schools, boarding schools, homes for students and schools with day students: attended by aboriginal students. It was believed that aboriginals were more suitable for industrial type work: the primary aim of these schools was to give the young children a christian education.
