Document Summary

Laws 1000 b - intro to legal studies - lecture 4: how we know the law part 3. There are three advantages to a post-doctrinal society: it rejects the idea that law is above society. It understands law through its effects on society: law is plural. Law is not only seen as criminal but also as regulation and enabler: law is recognized as having a symbolic function (see marxism) Law in action is referred to as real law . Legal pluralism is how there are many laws that constantly overlap. We must look at the people of a society and how they act to see what law really is. There are so many different forms of law, it touches practically every aspect of our life. Originally law was taught by the book. There was a need to change approach to legal education. Law needs to be more than what is in the books.
