Classification of offences: there are two main different types of offences: summary conviction and indictable: summary conviction these are offences that are less serious, similar to a misdemeanor. Max penalty: s. 787: fine and/or 6 months jail, s. 735(1)(b): ,000 fine for a corporation. Limitation period: 6-months (which means that a person cannot be charged after 6- months of the crime) Indictable these offences are more serious, violent crimes.
