Similarly, after the loss in the super bowl, increase in heart attacks and strokes for 2 weeks: after a win, there was a decrease for the same time period and county. Human stress stems from conquest, war, famine, but there is better access to shelter and medical services. Wear and tear of stress = early death, compromised reproduction. Disruption to homeostasis requires energy to restore equilibrium. Energy goes to growth, cell maintenance, immune function, reproduction, thermogenesis. During energy shortages, processes that are not required for survival, are suppressed and immune function is decreased. If demands are still higher than available, a person is stressed and survival is compromised.
