Document Summary

Phil 1550 september 26th, 2017 ch. 2 moral. Three views of ethics (meta ethics) all talking about the moral realm, not etiquette, law or prudence. Standard base on objective moral facts consists of moral values and principles that hold universally: for all people in all societies at all times. Does not mean that people must all act exactly the same way no matter what the circumstances are at the time. Binding upon all but need not to be morally judged can still adjust to circumstances. Agree on the core values but they disagree on details: the sky is sky blue, royal blue, turquoise, etc. they disagree on details but all agree the sky is a shade of blue. #2 popular relativism: there can be different moral standards for different societies. Each standard based on that societies moral beliefs and practices consists of moral values and principles that hold for all members of that particular society.
