Common assumptions about basic beliefs and practices about islam. Defining features of islam: five pillars, in your belief, there is only one god; allah, 5 prayer times every day, giving charity; almsgiving, fasting during ramadan, pilgrimage to mecca. Some people say there is a sixth pillar-> jihad: a wider meaning which means any kind of personal struggle for the faith. Universal islamic declaration of human rights (1981): Are there inconsistencies/incompleteness: values, idea that there is an aspiration for a just world order; one in which people can live, develop, prosper, being free from fear, oppression, exploitation and deprivation. Similar to franklin roosevelt"s speech about 4 human freedoms: one of the justifications for the whole list of following human rights. Targeting injustice and oppression as one of the main purposed of human rights. Say human rights are decreed by divine law-> dignity is not inherited in us but given to us, conferred.
