If we disagree about the reasoning behind human rights, how can we know what are our human rights: charles taylor"s approach: The asian values objection: opposing to asian values because of the contrast between. Western values favors individualism, thought to create a disorganized society; everyone acting for themselves. Asian values are better suited for achieving well being; based on duty, discipline & social order. Family- orientated, more prosperous society as a whole there would not be success in asia: if everyone took on western values of individualism, then, so, western liberties and entitlements are not good for asian. This debate does not just go between asia and western values, but societies between and within asia itself. There are multiple cultures; different roots, beliefs, Amartya sen: response to lee thesis peoples freedom values? values: if they are actually asian people values, are they their only. No correlation; different examples where there are cases of no economic growth in no democracy.
