Genetic intervention and the ethics of enhancement of human beings: julian savalescu. Message it sends to those that do not have the trait. Fairness: choosing not to enhance is wrong. Neglectful parent doesn"t supply dietary supplement necessary to keep their brilliant kid brilliant, while lazy parent doesn"t provide dietary supplement to increase their kid"s smarts from average to brilliant. Both parents fail the same moral duty: consistency. We accept environmental enhancements aimed to make our kids better people with happier lives. Children that do things that stimulate mind in summer will remember things learned in grade 3 when they start grade 4. By the end of grade 8, children that do nothing in summer will be behind in education: no different than treating disease. Health is a good, but not an intrinsic one. It is valuable because it is an instrument to well-being or leading a good life.
