The distinction between sex and gender: the biological difference argument, anatomy is destiny. Sexual difference is all pervasive, exclusive and heterosexist: criticism about gender in politics. Institutions sites and processes, ideologies, distribution mechanism that produce gender. Carl gilligan in a different voice on one hand is ok to lie and the other is fine to steal. Ethics of care versus ethics of justice: contextual approach vs. abstract reasoning, human connectedness vs individual separateness. (hines and his wife are two separate people). What would the consequences be modern day: maintenance of relationship vs. equality. (women are reasoning differently) criticism, small sample size, generalizability, assume all women share moral platform (orientation). Theorizing difference: women of color and the debate over difference, sojourner truth, patricia hill collins, angela harris, bell hooks, kimberley creshaw. Race as a social construct: ascribing meaning to physical characteristics, racial binaries and race/ gender binaries, understanding processes of race making and gender making.
