Document Summary
Ethics: code of conducts that govern the practice of particular professions, suh as researchers, physicians, lawyers etc. Morality: questions of right or wrong, good or bad, ought or ought not. Ethics establish more rigorous and high standards of conduct than moral obligations. As political scientists, we are considered with ethics with human subjects. Risk is a function of the magnitude or seriousness of the harm, and the probability that it will occur, whether to participants or to third parties. Researchers and research ethics boards (reb) must ensure that participants are not exposed to unnecessary risks. Make sure you aren"t putting the participants at risk. Minimal risk- a research in which the probability and magnitude of possible harms for those participating in research is no greater than risks in every day life. Substantial risk- research in which potential harms implied by participating in the research are high and may lead to a major physical injury or an emotional trauma.
