For people to be whole we must recognize their cultural identities. Shapes the politics of 19th and 20th century and now 21st. Idea that the best form of government is one that is ruled by one"s own. Eg; uk and the monarchy, houses of parliament at the hill, us pledge of allegiance. Tried to determine who was of each race using science (put a pencil in your hair and if it fell out you were white) If it"s not coming from blood lines - maybe it comes from a shared history. Most of our history is riddled with lies and myths which eventually create a national experience. We are a part of a community that we cannot physically feel or see, we just feel apart of it because of shared values and stories. Theses values give us safety, identity and meaning. Idea that the soul and history of a people is recorded in its language.
