If you wanted to build southam hall again, you would get the architects blue prints. The blue prints are different for any building as it is for any organism. The dna shows us how to build a cell, how the amino acids form to form protein and a cell. It tells the cell what role it will play in the body. (see slide for details and image of the dna molecule) Approximately 3 billion pairs of molecules can be chunked up into between 20,000-30,000 genes. The chromosome is a portion of the molecule that is part of that dna strand.
