Document Summary
Human development is a very complex interaction of both biological maturation and environmental experience. Physical process= changes in your biological nature (maturation) Cognitive process=changes in your thoughts patterns, intelligence and language. Social and emotional process= changes in your relationships with others people, changes in emotions and personality. Early= relatively short period of time that is crucial to determining our personality/ self . Late=we are changeable, based on experiences across our lifespan. Therefore early experiences do not dictate who we are as people. Germinal period: from conception until attached to uterine wall. Embryonic period: organs form in rudimentary form. Fetal period: organs begin to mature. Teratogen: any agent that causes birth defects (heroin/alcohol) Preterm infant: born before 38 weeks, risk of developmental problems, reflexes such as coughing, blinking and yawning continue throughout lifespan. However by 7 months we lose reflexes such as grasping or sucking. Motor & perceptual skills: these develop over time.
