Affective component: prejudice: a attitude or feeling toward an individual based solely on that individuals membership in a certain group. This attitude is an evaluative judgement (liking or disliking) Behavioral component: discrimination: refers to the unequal treatment of different people based on category in which they belong. Cognitive component: stereotypes: are the beliefs about the characteristics of a group of people as a whole. Most prejudices come from external characteristics that are readily visible. Overt racism : blatant expressions of hatred and discrimination against racial minorities. Aversive racism: refers to people who hold egalitarian values, but negative feeling toward minorities. They claim to believe in racial equality but feel uncomfortable around minorities and avoid them. They do not recognize that they are prejudiced. Perfunctory gesture towards the inclusion of minorities. Goal is to prevent criticism and give false appearance of inclusion of equal rights.
